Fallout 76 is a new game Bethesda teased today ahead of E3, and while fans are excited to see a new game is on the horizon, things are set to change if a new report is anything to go by. According to this report, the next title in the popular post-apocalyptic series is set to be multiplayer, which will make for quite the departure from the traditional single-player experience.
Stating anonymous sources, Kotaku notes the new Fallout will be “heavily inspired” by online survival RPGs like DayZ and Rust. “It will have quests and a story, like any other game from Bethesda Game Studios. It will also feature base-building—just like 2015’s Fallout 4—and other survival-based and multiplayer mechanics.” If you weren’t a fan of the base building in Fallout 4, you may wish to give this new title a pass.
It’s also said to be a little different in that you won’t be traveling to many cities — aside from settlements players construct, we assume. As highlighted by Kotaku, Vault 76 is a secured facility that was planned to unlock its door just a few decades after the nuclear destruction. It’s far too early to call it, but the next Fallout game could change up the series even further.
Another question is Bethesda continuing to support the Nintendo Switch with a release of Fallout 76? It could prove difficult with the online service, but we’ll have to wait and see.
